SIGNED, UNTITLED WATERCOLOR OF LITTLE PANCHO
1938. No Binding. Original illustration in watercolor by Leo Politii, signed and dated by him 1938, of Little Pancho, a young Mexican boy, the beloved title character created by Politi for his first book. Little Pancho was the first of many children's books Politi authored or illustrated, many of which demonstrated his admiration of Latin culture. In this illustration, a beleaguered Pancho is being giggled at by an older girl because the sombrero he's wearing is too small. On stiff paper sheet, measuring approx 10 x 15", corners nicked, signed and dated lower right. Italian-born Politi (1908-1996) was won the Caldecott Medal in 1950 for his "Song of the Swallows". Leo Politi's art often reflected a multiculturalism that was ahead of its time. Very Good. Item #013831
