MEMOIRS OF A SINGER (PAULINE: MEMOIRS OF AN OPERA SINGER)

MEMOIRS OF A SINGER (PAULINE: MEMOIRS OF AN OPERA SINGER)

London: (unidenitified), 1937. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. This adult novel defies bibliography. The author is, obviously, a pseudonym and the publisher is unidentified. OCLC lists no copy under any variation of its title in the time frame of its publishing date of 1937. The text suggests this could be an adaptation of "Pauline: Memoirs of an Opera Singer", or "Promiscuous Pauline, The Memoirs of a German Opera Singer", which was first published by Gebrüder Franckh of Stuttgart in1829 and purportedly the memoir of the opera singer Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient, the authorship attributed to Friedrich Bruckbräu. This copy was presumably privately published for private distribution as it includes 8 copper photographic plates in b&w which are sexually explicit, even by today's standards. 8vo, half purple leather over black and silver-striped covers, gilt title to spine, heavily textured endpapers, edges untrimmed, 380pp. Book edges moderately worn, hinges revealed, binding holding firm, internals quite nice. A real curio that defies our ability in erotic bibliography. Very Good +. Item #013148
