Booklet, stiff brown printed covers, unpaginated, in two parts a collection of b&w reproductions of portraits of American bluebloods, mostly of the equestrian set, but also a portrait of Admiral Richard E. Byrd of polar expeditionary fame.  The second part is a gallery of American sportsmen, portraits that were originally reproduced in the American magazine "The Sportsman".   With an introduction by Richard Braungart, translated from the German by A. M. McCaig.  Warmly inscribed by artist Adam to an American society lady on a trans-Atlantic crossing; "For my neighbor at the / Captains table on board/ S.S. Europe/ Mrs L. Y. Dunlop/ from Richard B. Adam/ S/S/ Europa/ December 15-21/ 1930".  Richard Benno Adam (1873 - 1937) was a German painter who became well known in his own country for horse portraits for the German, Austrian, Bohemian and Hungarian nobility. His numerous equestrian portraits became famous, especially that of Kaiser Wilhelm II , which was printed as a WWI postcard in mass circulation. During WWI, Adam served as a painter of the imperial war press quarters in Galicia and the imperial headquarters in France. After 1918 he successfully continued his work as a portrait and horse painter for aristocratic circles. Between 1928 and 1931 he worked several times in the USA, during which he made portraits of top American athletes. This pamphlet was inscribed on one of those crossings  Dark brown paper covers worn/stained.
