A BRIGHT AND SHINING LIE: JOHN PAUL VANN AND AMERICA IN VIETNAM
NY: Random House, 1988. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Association copy from Pulitzer Prize author and journalist Neil Sheehan (1936- 2021) to author and journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Frances FitzGerald (b1940) whose watershed 1972 book "Fire in the Lake: The Vietnamese and the Americans in Vietnam" - and winner of 1973 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction - informed so many serious studies of Vietnam that followed. Sheehan won the Pulitzer Prize for General Non Fiction for this title in 1989 (and like, FitzGerald had for her Pulitzer Prize book on Vietnam, the National Book Award, too). Inscribed by Sheehan on the fly leaf: "Sept 22, 1988 "To Frankie, A friend whose generosity is beyond compare, with admiration and immense gratitude, Neil" A important association, as these Pulitzer winning books on Vietnam figure so prominently in any bibliography on the subject. Fine copy in near fine dustjacket, the spine of which is slightly faded. Near Fine / Near Fine. Item #013338
