Printed at the Torch Press. Lacking dustjacket with moderate soiling around edges. This copy inscribed by both author Kendall Banning and poet Richard le Gallienne. "To Samuel M. Nicholson from Kendall Banning 1921" (and in Le Gallienne's hand:) "and Richard Le Gallienne - (the book we read together, dear Sam, to the singing of the Caribbean Sea.) Jan. - 1921." Kendall Banning (1879 - 1944) graduated from Dartmouth College in 1902 and became a writer of over a dozen books and an editor at Cosmopolitan Magazine, Popular Radio Magazine and Hearst Magazine. His books include "Censored Mother Goose Rhymes" (1926), "West Point Today" (1937) and "Annapolis Today" (1938). Richard Le Gallienne (1866 -1947) was an English author and poet best know for literary and artistic journal The Yellow Book (known for Aubry Beardsley illustrations) and fathering actress Eva Le Gallienne in his second marriage to Danish journalist Julie Nørregaard. In his younger days, he was paramour to Oscar Wilde. The inscriptions of Banning and Le Gallienne suggest a commn knowledge of Samuel Nicholson though we could not identify who that is.
