Modest loss spine foot, corners gently worn, solid binding. Of the many editions of this important work first published in France in 1791 and partly translated by Thomas Jefferson , OCLC lists only 1 copy with Frederick Farrah as printer, and dates it 1900. This copy is undated but the binding suggests a binding typical of much earlier, plus there is an owner name dated Shanghai February 22 '76 which by period script and century could only refer to 1876.
