Complete run of Volume 1, 24 issues, plus 12 of 18 issues of Volume 2 of the scarce newsletter of recipes, food philosophizing, and charming anecdotes that Claiborne started with his longtime friend and former chef at Le Pavillon, Pierre Franey, when he left The New York Times as its food critic in 1971. It failed after two years. "I shouldn't have done it," Claiborne told People magazine in 1975, "I'm not what the French call a businessman." Each issue is 8 pages, Volume 1 running from March 15, 1972 to March 1, 1973, three-hole punched, as issued, housed in a black, vinyl three ring binder issued by Claiborne with his signature stamped in gold. The incomplete run of Volume 2 is loose, the last issued on December 1, 1973. A few of the newsletters are lightly stained, likely evidence that the recipes were actually used in an actual kitchen.
