The Eye of the Wind: An Autobiography

London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1961. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine in very good, price clipped dustjacket. Inscribed by Scott to an American collector "Inscribed to Hugh McMillan by Peter Scott October 1965" on the title page with a finely articulated open-winged goose in flight drawn in blue ink, plus a small archive of correspondance between the American collector and Scott and his staff at The Wildfowl Trust, founded by Scott. Three letters from the staff on Trust airmail stationery responding to the collector's letters to Scott and a gift of the book The Living Bird. Most consequential is Scott's personal response to the collector - an ANS dated 17 July 1965 on Trust letterhead in stamped airmail envelope - in which he acknowledeges gratefully the books and articles sent to him by the collector, comments on Eye of the Wind ("endless" "altogether too long" "(requiring) a good deal of perception on the part of the reader") and finally noting the amount of time he is spending on The Conservation of Nature and World Wildlife Fund. Scott includes with the ANS a copy of his one-page essay "A Conservation Creed". The archive also includes misc. newspaper and magazine articles. A unique package, especially for the original illustration in Eye of the Wind and Scott's candid comments about the autobiography in his ANS. Very Good / NF-. Item #010157
